"It is not the mountains we conquer, but ourselves"
- Sir Edmund Hillary
We all are inclined to travel in one way or the other. Most of us are interested in the travel journey rather than reaching the actual location. The main cause is the natural beauty around us while travelling, the atmosphere is totally contrast from city life. Small kids are always exhilarated to find two things on the way, first is the lake or river and second are the mountains that have a different and unique vista with every distance we cover during the journey.
Mountains are mostly present in the hilly regions, where the climate is cold and chilly, people living in such areas are mountain and hiking lovers. They spend their entire childhood in mountain trekking and tramping in their daily lives and learn hiking at a very early age, that's why most of the Mount Everest conquerors belong from such regions
For all of us, in our childhood stage whenever we were asked to draw a nature sketch our basic elements would always be a tree, a house, a lake across and 4 zig-zag mountains. Right from a small mountain visible out of town while travelling to the highest peak, Mount Everest, each mountain fascinates each one of us.
Mountains are of 5 types namely volcanic, dome, fold, plateau, fault block.
Intentionally or unintentionally we are harming the elements of nature, mountains are also a part of it.
Mountains cover around 22% of the surface of the earth and 13% of the world population lives on mountains. Though mountains are 100 times more huge than humans, technology has helped human beings to even cut down the giant mountains for their own purposes.
Landslides, avalanches, torrents and rockfalls are the natural disasters that originated from mountains but our barbarous and avarice deeds towards the mountains are responsible for such disasters.
'International mountains day' is celebrated to create awareness amongst people against such thoughts and mark the importance of each mountain in the world
Importance of mountains :
• Mountains are the most important reason for rainfall in the particular region, they are responsible for the attraction of rain clouds
• In some regions mountains protect them from super cold thundering winds, example: Mount Everest protect the leeward side from arctic winds
• They help to Milder the summer temperatures
So let's save mountains
Which is the livelihood for thousands
Don't forget that it's one of God's beautiful creation
With mountaineers, it has a different and beautiful relation.
