Makar sankranti- welcoming summer in delight
Makar sankranti also called Sankranthi , Magha,Mokor Songkranti,Mela,Maghi,Pongal is celebrated in India with high spirits. It celebrates the end of shivering winters and welcomes the balmy summers. No wonder this festival is dedicated to the Sun God - Surya.The way this festival is celebrated gives us an idea about how to make the most of summers after the cold winters.
The dress code is nothing but black clothing so that we can soak in as much heat from sun rays as possible. This festival will entice you with excitement. On this day people decorate their doorsteps with dazzling rangolis . Various sweet dishes are prepared which are offered to god and then to be eaten by us.
Just like the name of this festival is polyonymous , variety of sweet delicacies are prepared on this day and it differs from region to region. We find Indians making Til ke laddu, Ramdane ke laddu, Ellu Bela,Makara Chaula and many more dishes on this festival. People distribute Til-gud in their neighbourhood. In Maharashtra we find people distributing sweets and saying the phrase “Til-gud ghya , God bola “ (Take sweet,talk sweet,be sweet).
Another fascinating part of this festival is kite flying.On this day you will find the sky chequered with beautiful kites. Every person tries their best to reach the heights with their kites. It’s a spectacular view to watch.
